SanDisk Malaysia has announced the availability of the SanDisk Creator Series, a new lineup of storage products designed primarily for content creators; the series includes portable, desktop, and smartphone-based form factors aimed at supporting content production in various settings.

There are a total of seven new storage products all with the blue hue design designated for several different storage formats, including flash drives, SD cards, and external SSDs. Some of the products here aren’t technically a new design (i.e. Creator Pro portable SSD), though the company does intend to entice buyers with bundled Adobe software to differentiate themselves to, say, the legacy Extreme PRO series products.
Most of these products will put storage and speed as their key selling point, so expect numbers in excess of 1,000MB/s when it comes to SSDs, and for SD cards, you can expect to handle high-resolution video recording with the two models launched today. Also launched is the pair of external flash drives – one USB-C version focusing on speed, while the other focuses on interoperability between Lightning ports and USB-C ports.

One of the product does intrigue me though, and it’s the Creator Desk Drive. While it uses USB-C for data transfer, this slightly less portable external SSD comes with a DC barrel connector, and it seems like none of the SanDisk’s marketing materials had any explanation of this plug’s existence, despite its frequent appearance in marketing images (on paper, a USB-C connector is enough to power an SSD on its own). I inquired the staff on-site but didn’t manage to get a conclusive answer, though we’re expected to hear back from them – we’ll update this article when that happens.
In any case, the full lineup of SanDisk Creator Series is now available through official SanDisk online stores on Lazada, Shopee, and selected retailers nationwide.
Pokdepinion: Having a DC connector on an SSD seems like an odd choice – they never use enough power to warrant a separate power source to begin with.
